The cooperative project “Visual Literacy within Cultural Education” is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and based on the CEFR_VL. It is separated into two interconnected sub-projects, i.e. the sub-project „BKKB-Assessment” led by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Frick at the HSD University of Applied Sciences in Cologne and the sub-project „BKKB-Instruction” led by Prof. Dr. Katrin Rakoczy at the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF) in Frankfurt am Main. The cooperative project aims to gain new insights into the process of how visual literacy can be empirically measured („BKKB-Assessment”) and how art instruction can foster visual literacy („BKKBInstruction”). The project is conducted in cooperation with ENViL.

Members: Andrea Kárpáti (Hungary), Mira Kallio-Tavin (Finland), Franz Billmayer (Austria), Uli Frick, Ingrid Hoepel, Katrin Rakoczy, Miles Tallon, Ernst Wagner, and Susanne Weiss (Germany).

Looking back: Preparatory meetings with the Austrian “Bundesinstitut Bildungsforschung, Innovation und Entwicklung (BIFIE)“ took place in Salzburg in 2016. An initial workshop was held in Cologne in January 2017. In the meantime a test and the concept of the accompanying investigation have been developed.
