Art teacher J. works at a secondary school in The Netherlands. Her students in grade ten (15-16 years) have a broad assignment with many options: they have to choose from several themes: Human being, On the way, Dramatic event or a song (text). The students are free to choose materials and techniques. The lessons series lasts for several weeks.

At the start of the assignment the teacher explains and discusses the visual and text rubric. All of the criteria in the
instrument (production part) are presented and discussed in class.
Together they choose the criteria that are relevant for the assignment. They decide to skip Collaborating and Presenting as it concerns an individual task which will not be presented. They also skip Persevering and Using function, style and genre as they decided these were not relevant this time.
